Suddenly everything was moving fast.
An emergency rush from the step-down unit back to the ICU.
The thought of going home — shattered in seconds.

Stepping back into the ICU felt like relief.

Along with Melanie came three carts full of our things —
pushed in quickly, piled into the room without a second thought.
And then it all hit me at once.

All I wanted was sleep.
But there was nowhere to go.
Then Abbi walked in.
And everything slowed.
